No person under the age of 13 may access or use BeReal.

BeReal exists so that friends can show up for each other as they really are. These Community Standards exist to protect that experience: they set out what we ask of everyone who uses BeReal, and how we act when those expectations are not met.
These Community Standards apply to all BeReal users worldwide. Depending on where you are located, additional rights and procedures may apply under local law. The provisions expressly identified below as applying to users located in the European Union implement rights granted by the EU Digital Services Act.
These Community Standards form part of BeReal’s User Agreement, together with our Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. They are the policies against which we assess Content, whether reported to us or detected by our own tools. “Content” has the meaning given in Section 4 of our Terms of Service.
Our commitments
We built these Standards around five commitments:
Authenticity: we want people to represent themselves accurately and to trust that the friends they see on BeReal are who they say they are.
Safety: we remove Content that risks harm to any person, and we treat threats to children and to physical safety as our highest priority.
Privacy: we protect the personal information and images that people share with their community.
Dignity: we expect people to treat one another with respect, and we act against harassment, hateful conduct, or any degrading behaviour.
Accountability: we apply these Standards consistently, we explain our decisions, and we give people a way to be heard.
How we moderate
BeReal uses a combination of automated tools and qualified human review to identify, assess, and act on prohibited conduct. Content is assessed against applicable law and these Community Standards. Our moderation policy is transparent, objective, and proportionate.

Safety
We prioritise the physical, psychological, and emotional safety of everyone on BeReal, and especially of minors.
1. Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM)
We apply a zero-tolerance approach to any Content that endangers children.
What is prohibited. Any Content that depicts, encourages, facilitates, or simulates the sexual exploitation, physical abuse, or endangerment of minors, meaning persons under 18 years of age.
Examples. Do not post or do the following:
Images, illustrations, or videos of a child sexual abuse nature, including AI-generated material.
Attempts to make sexually motivated contact with a minor (grooming).
Statements or jokes that normalise or trivialise child sexual abuse.
2. Harassment or Bullying
We want people to feel safe posting their real, unfiltered moments. Harassment and bullying directly undermine that sense of safety.
What is prohibited. Targeted behaviour or repeated actions intended to intimidate, humiliate, degrade, stalk, or blackmail a specific individual.
Examples. Do not post or do the following:
Publishing someone’s private information without their consent (doxxing), such as a home address, a personal phone number, or their sexual orientation.
Content whose purpose is to target and ridicule a specific person.
Organising or joining coordinated waves of abusive messages, requests, or mass reporting against a person.
3. Incitement to Suicide or Self-Harm
The safety and wellbeing of our community comes first. We remove Content that puts people at risk of self-harm. Where we identify a person who may be at risk, we may provide information about support resources available in their country.
What is prohibited. Content that encourages, glorifies, provides methods for, or directly incites suicide, self-harm, or severe eating disorders.
Examples. Do not post or do the following:
Practical guides, tips, or online challenges explaining how to self-harm or take one’s own life.
Messages encouraging another user to take their own life.
Content promoting or glamorising extreme anorexic or bulimic behaviour.
Violence and Criminal Behaviour
We do not allow Content that facilitates, organises, or glorifies violence or serious criminal activity.
4. Terrorism or Violent Extremism
We do not allow BeReal to be used to promote, celebrate, or organise terrorism or violent extremism in any form.
What is prohibited. Any Content that praises, promotes, incites, or provides financial, material, or ideological support to terrorist acts, or to violent extremist organisations designated as such under applicable law.
Examples. Do not post or do the following:
Publishing or circulating propaganda produced by such an organisation.
5. Violence or Threats
We remove credible threats and glorification of violence because they put real people at real risk, both on and off the platform.
What is prohibited. Statements or visuals expressing an intent to commit acts of physical violence, glorifying past violent acts, or inciting serious bodily or property harm.
Examples. Do not post or do the following:
Sending a message threatening a person or their property.
Celebrating a violent act or its perpetrator.
Calling on others to attack an identifiable person or place.
6. Illegal Drugs or Regulated Goods
We restrict the sale and promotion of drugs and other regulated goods to reduce the risk of real-world harm connected to activity on our platform.
What is prohibited. Offering, selling, buying, facilitating, or promoting illegal substances, prescription medication, or regulated goods, including tobacco and alcohol.
Examples. Do not post or do the following:
Posts offering to deliver such products.
Sharing the contact details of a seller.
Price lists or coded vocabulary used to advertise such products.
Objectionable Content
We restrict Content that is degrading, hateful, sexually explicit, or otherwise incompatible with the tone of our community.
7. Hate Speech
BeReal is meant to be a place where people show up as themselves, for their real friends. Hateful Content undermines the trust and authenticity our community depends on.
What is prohibited. Incitement to hatred, violence, or discrimination directed at an individual or a group on the basis of a protected characteristic, including origin, ethnicity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, serious illness, and age.
Examples. Do not post or do the following:
Using discriminatory slurs about a person or a group.
Dehumanising comparisons or stereotypes targeting a protected group.
Denying or trivialising a recognised genocide or crime against humanity.
8. Nudity or Sexual Content
BeReal is designed for authentic, everyday moments shared with friends, not for sexual Content. We treat non-consensual intimate imagery as a serious safety issue, not merely a content violation.
What is prohibited. Depictions of unsolicited nudity, or the sharing of sexual Content without the consent of the people shown.
Examples. Do not post or do the following:
Sharing intimate photos or videos without the consent of the person shown.
Unwanted sexual solicitations or propositions through messages or comments.
Threatening to publish intimate images in order to obtain money, images, or any other advantage.
9. Inappropriate Content
Some Content falls short of a legal violation but is still incompatible with the respectful, low-pressure tone we want on BeReal.
What is prohibited. Content that does not reach the threshold of a legal prohibition but is incompatible with the tone of our Services, in particular Content that is gratuitously shocking or degrading, or that is repeatedly vulgar.
Examples. Do not post or do the following:
Systematic use of vulgar or crude language.
Gratuitously shocking or disgusting imagery.
Repeated Content designed to make other users uncomfortable.
Integrity and Authenticity
We protect the authenticity of BeReal against fraud, manipulation, and inauthentic behaviour.
10. Scam or Fraud
We want people to be able to trust what they see from their friends on BeReal.
What is prohibited. Deceptive practices, fake profiles, or schemes intended to extract money, credentials, or personal data from users.
Examples. Do not post or do the following:
Impersonating another person, a company, or an organisation.
Phishing links or requests for login credentials.
Fake giveaways, prize claims, or investment schemes.
11. Spam or Inauthentic Behaviour
Authenticity is the foundation of BeReal.
What is prohibited. Use of coordinated inauthentic behaviour, automated accounts (bots), or mass messaging. Section 1 of our Terms of Service also prohibits the use of our Services by AIs or bots.
Examples. Do not post or do the following:
Operating an account by automated means.
Sending the same message or request to a large number of users.
Operating several accounts to amplify the same Content.
12. Intellectual Property Infringement
We respect the intellectual property rights of others and expect our community to do the same. If you believe Content infringes your intellectual property rights, you may report it in the Application or through our intellectual property reporting form.
What is prohibited. Unauthorised use, reproduction, or distribution of works protected by copyright, registered trademarks, or patents.
Examples. Do not post or do the following:
Posting a third party’s photograph, video, or music without authorisation.
Using a brand’s name or logo to suggest a connection that does not exist.
Other Harmful Activity
This pillar captures conduct that threatens the platform, its users, or third parties but does not fit neatly within the categories above.
13. Other
This category exists so that new or unforeseen forms of harmful conduct do not fall outside the protection of these Community Standards.
What is prohibited. Any other conduct not expressly described above that violates applicable law or threatens the integrity of the platform, the security of our systems, or the rights of third parties.
Safeguard. Where we act under this category, the statement of reasons provided under the Remedies section below identifies the specific conduct relied upon and the applicable legal ground.
Enforcement
BeReal acts in a diligent, objective, and proportionate manner, with due regard to your rights and legitimate interests, including your freedom of expression.
Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, and taking into account all relevant circumstances, including whether the violation is a first occurrence, any of the following measures may apply to a violation of any category described above:
Content removal: removing any Content, whether a post, a comment, a message, a RealMoji, or a profile, that violates these Standards.
Permanent suspension of the account.
Deletion of the account.
Preservation of evidence and referral to authorities: BeReal may preserve relevant evidence where permitted or required by applicable law. Where BeReal becomes aware of information giving rise to a suspicion of a criminal offence involving a threat to a person’s life or safety, it informs the competent authorities.
Any permanent termination of an account results in a ban from creating a new account. Accounts belonging to users who appear under 13 are deleted.
Repeated violations result in increasingly serious measures. Severe violations, including CSAM and other manifestly illegal Content described above, result in immediate and permanent termination of the account, even on a first occurrence.
Procedural Provisions and Remedies
The provisions identified as applying to users located in the European Union implement rights granted by the EU Digital Services Act. If you are located outside the European Union, you may request a review of a moderation decision through the support channels available in your jurisdiction.
Report
Any individual or entity may report Content they believe to be illegal or in breach of these Community Standards through the reporting feature in the Application or through the dedicated form on our website. You do not need a BeReal account to submit a report through the web form.
When submitting a report, you will be asked to explain why you consider the Content to be illegal or in breach of these Community Standards.
If you are located in the European Union, you will receive an acknowledgment of receipt and will be informed of our decision and of the redress options available to you.
Statement of reasons
If you are located in the European Union, whenever we restrict your Content or take action against your account, you will receive a clear and specific statement of reasons explaining:
the nature of the restriction applied, its duration, and its territorial scope;
the facts and circumstances relied upon, including the category of these Community Standards breached;
whether the decision was made by our human moderators, with the assistance of automated tools, or by automated means alone;
the applicable specific rule of these Community Standards, or the legal ground, on which the decision is based;
the redress options available under the Appeal and Out-of-Court Dispute Settlement provisions below.
Appeal
Any user may contact BeReal through the support channels available in their jurisdiction to request a review of a moderation decision.
If you are located in the European Union, you may submit a complaint free of charge within six (6) months after being informed of the decision. To do so, email appeal@bereal.com and include your username, the case reference stated in the decision and, where appropriate, the Content concerned.
Your complaint will be reviewed by qualified staff who were not involved in the initial decision, including where the initial decision was taken by automated means. We will inform you of the outcome by email without undue delay and will provide the reasons for our decision, together with information on the redress options available.

Out-of-Court Dispute Settlement and Judicial Redress
If you are located in the European Union, you may refer a dispute concerning a moderation decision to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body under Article 21 of the EU Digital Services Act. You do not need to complete BeReal’s internal complaint process before doing so.
All users retain any right to seek judicial redress available under applicable law.
