New Features For New Friends ?

Has your summer been as hot and busy as ours? We hope you’re looking forward to Fall because we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on! 

First up: Friends of Friends is here 🤝. 

We’ve created the Friends of Friends feed to make it easier to find the people you care about most on BeReal 🥰. With the new feed, you’ll get a glimpse into what everyone you may know is up to – in all their authentic glory. 

Friends of Friends follows our mission to keep you connected with the people you really care about and to continue discovering how we’re all perfectly imperfect. 

Starting today, Friends of Friends will be available globally. Here’s how it works:

• Sharing a new BeReal with Friends of Friends:
  You’ll be able to select whether you prefer to share your  BeReal with your friends as normal 🖇️ or also in the Friends of Friends feed by tapping the audience option and selecting ‘My friends + their friends’. Your BeReal will never show up in the Friends of Friends feed unless you opt-in. 
• Sharing an existing BeReal with Friends of Friends:
  You’ll have the option to change the audience setting at any time after posting by tapping the three-dot menu in the top right corner and choosing the option to change your audience.
• Removing a user from your Friends of Friends feed:
  You can permanently remove a mutual friend from showing in your Friends of Friend feed by tapping the ❌ in the top right corner of their BeReal (this will also remove them from your friend suggestions).
• Say goodbye to the old Discovery Feed:
  We love to experiment, and Discovery Feed was something that didn’t quite make the cut. Now that users can explore posts from people who are already within the orbit of their close circle, the global Discovery Feed will be eliminated 🪓.

Oh, and we’re continuing to make improvements to existing features so you’ll see lots more of those coming, including …alongside Friends of Friends, we’re also rolling out: 

• Pins 📌: You’ve captured some of your most precious moments ✨with us, and now you can share those with your friends through your profile anytime you want to relive the BeReal. Your pinned BeReal posts are viewable on your profile and only by your BeReal friends. You can pin up to 3 BeReal on your profile. Once pinned, they remain on your profile until you decide to remove or replace them. 
• Mentions 🤳:  We’ve heard people wanting to be able to mention their friends in their BeReal. Now you can mention a friend in a BeReal caption by typing @ followed by their BeReal full name or username (this feature will continue to evolve📈).
• Improved Friend Recommendations 📝: We’ve created a more data-driven way to show the people who might be in your circle but not on your current friends list. Now, you’ll see friend suggestions throughout the app based on who you’re already interacting with on BeReal.
